Jack Allen Koeppel- 8-19-44 – 9-8-22

Jack passed peacefully on September 8, 2022 with his wife of more than 49 years, Rona, and his three children at his side. Jack was born in Philadelphia, PA and grew up in Brooklyn, NY where he resided with his wife until his passing. Jack spent over 30 years with the New York City Board of Education, first as a high school English teacher and later as an educational evaluator. Jack was a voracious reader of books, magazines, and newspapers, often reading 3 or 4 each day. Jack’s vocabulary and Jeopardy scores were unsurpassed. Jack loved to perform- he was a Board member of the UFT Players in NYC, and also acted in many shows at his winter residence in Florida. He was a comedian by nature, always telling jokes and using puns. Sports and sports writing were passions of his. Despite growing up in Brooklyn in the 1950s, Jack chose to be a devoted New York Giants fan (and even rooted for the team when they moved to San Francisco), and then became an avid New York Mets fan. He also loved spending his Sundays watching football, especially cheering on the New York Giants. His side “job” of covering high school sports in Brooklyn for local newspapers was also his joy. Jack was truly an incredible man and will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He is survived by his wife, his children, Eric (Esther), David (Erin), Elyssa (Lee), eight grandchildren (who always made him smile), and numerous nieces and nephews.
