Dorothy “Dot” Rothgarber (nee Gimpelson), 90, of Freeport N.Y., passed away September 24, 2022
She was born February 29, 1932 in Brooklyn, N.Y. In 1950 Dorothy married her beloved husband, Herbert Rothgarber, who predeceased her in 2017. Dorothy and Herb were both classically trained pianists who for many years gave private lessons in their home. They were accomplished musicians, deeply devoted to their craft and passionate about the music they performed and enjoyed. They frequently dueled on their side-by-side Steinways, filling their home and the neighborhood with beautiful melodies.In 1980, Dorothy received her master’s degree in counseling from CW Post University. She opened a private practice in Freeport, which thrived for decades.Dorothy shared her husband’s love of travel. Over their 67 years of marriage Herb and Dot traversed the world together visiting dozens of countries, with Italy being a favorite spot. She was also an avid gardener known for her lush landscapes and creative stonework.
A loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Dorothy is survived by two daughters; Jocelyn Lopatin of Groton Mass., and her husband Ted; and Lyra Blumenthal of Newburgh, N.Y., and her husband Michael Corrado. She is survived by two grandchildren, Benjamin Blumenthal and his wife Colleen of Los Angeles, and Kaylee Blumenthal of Newburgh N.Y. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Beau Blumenthal and Everett Blumenthal, and several nieces and nephews.
