Notes:
Helene L. Heller, a veteran employee of the City of New York, died Nov. 21 at Stony Brook Hospital at
the age of 63.
The cause of death was 9/11-related cancer.
She was born in Brooklyn and was a graduate of SUNY-Purchase, where she majored in art history. As a city employee, she spent most of her career with the City of New York Housing Authority, and lived in Battery Park City, overlooking the World Trade Center. Upon retirement she moved to Hampton Bays, Long Island.
She loved animals, and was a volunteer at the Southampton Animal Shelter. She was devoted to her dogs, first Poochie, then Manny. The list of activities that brought her joy was long: painting, drawing, photography, and the theater among her favorites.
Survivors include her mother, Judith Heller, of Boynton Beach Fla; two sisters, Riza Laudin (Alan) of Marriottsville, MD. And Sherri Heller (Martin Sobin), of Sparta, N.J.; a niece, Jillian Morris (Evan); nephews Matthew Laudin and Michael Sobin; and great-niece and great-nephew Laila and Hayden.
Internment was at the family’s plot in Beth David Cemetery in Elmont N.Y.
Memorial donations may be made in her name to the Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation (www.southamptonanimalshelter.com) or Hadassah (www.hadassah.org)
