Born on February 25, 1931, Judy died at the age of 95. She was predeceased by Alan Gurvis, her husband of 72 years. She is survived by her sons, Rabbi Eric (Laura Kizner Gurvis) of Sherborn MA, Mark (Leah Pomerantz) of Vancouver, British Columbia, and Todd of Los Angeles CA; her grandchildren Benjamin, (Emily), Sarah (Jeremy Weinberg), Aaron (Anna), Jacob (Deni Budman), Annie, Lottie, Noa, Esther, Eitan (Gabi Fernandez), and Shoshanah (Brian Reagan); and her great-grandchildren Ian, Henry, Eleanor, Noah and Adam.
Judy was a long-time volunteer leader with Hadassah, as well as the synagogues in which she and her family were active members. She was an avid reader and had a real talent for knitting and needlepoint. She loved playing Bridge, Canasta, and Dominoes. She was especially renowned for her wonderful cheesecake. Most of all she will be remembered for the loving and dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother she was for nearly 70 years.
The family is especially grateful for the loving care provided by her care manager, Allison Shevlin; her aides Gemie Madeus, Manouse St. Juste, and Clere Francois; along with the wonderful staff at The Vi at Lakeside in Lantana.
Shivah will be observed in each of the sons’ homes during the coming week.
Donations in Judy’s memory are welcome to the Palm Beach Jewish Federation (www.jewishpb.org) or to the charity of your choice.
