Judy Tabor Smizik, 77, of Pittsburgh PA and Boca Raton FL, passed away on August 16th 2026.
Judy is survived by her loving husband of 53 Years, Frank Smizik. A loving mother to Stacey Smizik of CA, and Stephen and Bari (Feinberg) Smizik of Boca Raton, FL, proud grandmother of Jakob and Reid Smizik, and beloved sister of Mark and Susan (Gilbert) Tabor of Boca Raton FL, and Bob and Nancy (Homer) Smizik of Pittsburgh PA. her nephews Gregory and Eden (Hirsch) Tabor of Boca Raton, FL, Scott and Beth (Lawrence) Smizik of Richmond, VA and Dave and Carrie (Schmidt) Smizik of Denver, CO. Adoring daughter to the late Harry and Adeline Tabor. Judy was loved by her many cousins and friends.
Judy was a passionate kindergarten teacher with Pittsburgh Public Schools for more than 35 years and a role model in her profession. She loved molding young minds and was a leader in teaching reading comprehension to many young children, in and out of the classroom. An expert in her field, Judy successfully helped countless children with learning disabilities utilizing her experience, patience and enthusiasm. Her love of teaching continued after retirement through her work as a tutor and substitute teacher.
Like her late parents, Judy was a longtime member of Rodef Shalom Congregation in Pittsburgh, PA. She had a deep love for everything Pittsburgh and especially enjoyed cheering on the Pirates and Steelers. Judy also had a lifelong passion for learning and took great pride in researching, documenting, and preserving her family’s history and legacy for future generations.
Judy will be remembered for the wonderful life she built with Frank by her side, the love of her children and grandsons, and the love she shared with her family and friends. She will also be remembered for her contribution to her community, her passion for teaching and the many lives she touched thought out her life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to THE EUGENE M. & CHRISTINE E. LYNN CANCER INSTITUTE AT BOCA RATON REGIONAL HOSPITAL
Service Information: A semi private service will be held at Temple Beth El on Wednesday August 19th 2026 at 12:30 PM. Shiva will be held at the home of her children Stephen and Bari Smizik from 3PM to 7 PM.
