David Norflus, 96, of Atlanta, Georgia passed away peacefully on August 20, 2026. Born in Brooklyn, New York, David was the son of the late Joseph and Fannie Norflus. He graduated from The University of Miami with both a Bachelors and Masters degree and proudly served in the United States Army. He spent more than 35 years as a high school social studies and economics teacher with the New York City Public Schools where he was respected by colleagues and remembered fondly by generations of students.
On July 3, 1960, David married Mildred Lieberman in Brooklyn, NY and they enjoyed a beautiful marriage for 52 years until Mildred passed away in 2013. They raised their children Josef (Joe) and Francine (Fran) in Jericho, New York where they established a network of friends that lasted decades.
David enjoyed exercising and especially walking and was known for taking daily ten plus mile walks for most of his adult life. He was a passionate sports fan and loved cheering on first the Brooklyn Dodgers and later on the NY Mets. He was an active member of each synagogue at which he worshiped and served as congregation president at Temple Beth Torah in Westbury, NY in the 1980’s. David was proud to have participated in various charitable roles and most notable was his decades long relationship with The Red Cross for which he served at numerous blood banks.
He is survived by his children, Fran and Joe and daughter-in-law Susan, and by his 3 grandchildren, Debbie, Rachel and Matthew.
In addition to his parents and his wife Mildred, David was predeceased by his brother, Morris. David was blessed to live a long and healthy life and thus was predeceased by almost all of his friends and colleagues with whom he had meaningful relationships during his life.
