George Weisz, 90 years old, of Lido Beach, New York passed away peacefully in his sleep as he always
wished on Wednesday, March 29, 2023. George was born on May 28, 1932, to Mollie and Jacob Weisz
in Brooklyn, New York. He graduated from Tilden High School in 1949, where he met the love of his life,
Joan Beth Weisz (nee Gross). They married on June 15, 1952. After graduating from Harvard College
magna cum laude in 1952 he attended Harvard Law School, graduating magna cum laude in June 1955. While in law school he was an editor of the Harvard Law Review. Immediately after graduation he
became an associate at the firm of Cleary Gottlieb Friendly & Hamilton (now Cleary Gottlieb). In due
course, he became the head of the New York litigation group and served two terms on the firm’s
executive committee. In 1980, he founded the firm’s bankruptcy practice and headed that division until
his reluctant retirement in 2002 at the age of 70.

He is predeceased by his beloved wife Joan Beth and his brother Stanley Weisz. He is survived by his
three children, Andria Davidson (David Bridges), Betsy Weisz-Spadaro (Russell Spadaro), and James
Weisz (Robyn Levy). He had six grandchildren: Philip Davidson (Hong Tran), Melanie Spadaro-Goldstein
(Evan Goldstein), Nicole Spadaro, Reneé Weisz, Bryan Weisz, and Lilly Weisz, as well as three great-
grandchildren: Orin Tran Davidson, Finn Tran Davidson, and Rory Tran Davidson.

There are no words for the legacy George has left to our family. He will be missed immensely by all
who knew and loved him.
