Dr. Sheldon Turkish died on September 3, 2023. Dr. Turkish was born on December 4, 1937 in Brooklyn, NY. He graduated from New Eutrid High School in 1953 at the age of 16. He then attended NYU in Manhattan and graduated in 1957 with a degree in biology, with honors. Dr. Turkish went to Chicago Medical school and graduated in 1961. He completed an obstetrics and gynecology residency at Maimonides Hospital in Brooklyn NY and served as Chief Resident from 1965-1966. Dr. Turkish then entered the United States Air Force as a Captain and was honorably discharged after two years. He then began his lifelong career as a physician at the OB/GYN Group of Perth Amboy and Edison, New Jersey, where he worked for 53 years.
Dr. Turkish retired to Boca Raton, Florida with his wife, Barbara. He loved fish and their ponds, plants, and he was an avid art collector. Most of all, he loved his family which brought him the most pride. He is survived by his Wife of 61 years, Barbara; his sister Roberta and her Husband Alan; his five children, Andrew and Sivi, Beth and Rob, Jonathan and Margarita, Jennifer and Joe, and Jill; his ten grandchildren; one great grandchild; and one unborn grandchild, who will honor him with his namesake. He was loved dearly and will be missed immensely.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm on September 7, 2023 with a burial to follow at the South Florida Jewish Cemetery.
Shiva will be held in New Jersey at the home of Jennifer Turkish and Joseph Morella on Saturday, September 9th and Sunday, September 10th. Please contact Jennifer Turkish for details.
