Notes:

Arlene Granet, beloved matriarch and remarkable educator, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2025. Born on October 13, 1930, to immigrant parents Ray & Sam, she embodied the values they instilled in her, especially education. Her parents’ love and belief in her shaped her into a woman who would later nurture generations with the same qualities.

As a distinguished faculty member of the elementary education department at Hofstra University until age 84, Arlene guided countless student teachers, shaping the future. Her passion for learning extended well into her later years at Orchard Cove Senior Center, where she taught Yiddish classes. This dedication to education blossomed in her own children, who carried forward her mission of making the world a better place; one becoming a pediatric surgical specialist, one a child advocacy attorney, and the other an internist.

In her 46-year marriage to Irv, Arlene created a home in Bellmore Long Island, where love was expressed through both grand gestures and small daily acts. She was a driving force behind the LYBAS (Love Your Brothers & Sisters) family group, ensuring that extended family remained connected across generations. She and Irv were happy to provide many opportunities for their children.

As a grandmother, Arlene’s love knew no bounds. She delighted in every detail of her grandchildren’s lives, from small achievements to great milestones. Even when geographically separated, she maintained intimate connections through regular calls, her off-key but joyous birthday songs becoming a cherished tradition.

Arlene who was predeceased by her beloved husband Irving and loving daughter Ellen Granet Hutt, is survived by her children David & Lisa Granet, Jeff Hutt, and Kenneth & Wendy Granet, her grandchildren, Samantha, Daniel & Caitlin, Elijah, Isaiah Ezra, Rebecca, and Melissa, and her great-grandchildren Everly and Calvin, who carry forward her legacy.

Though she has left this world, her spirit lives on in the many lives she touched—as a mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend. Her family, friends, and community will deeply miss her. Her memory will always be a blessing.
