OBITUARY: Harriet Morris (1926-2022)

Harriet Morris, 96, of Boston, MA, died August 18, 2022. She was born June 12, 1926 to Irving and Molly Greenstein in Brooklyn, NY. She graduated from New Utrecht High School in Brooklyn and then City College (1945).  Later on, she continued her education, graduating from Hofstra University with a Masters degree in education. Harriet then taught high school business subjects for many years in the Merrick-Bellmore School District on Long Island.

She was married to Simon Morris for 47 years, until his death in 1993.  With her husband she raised 3 sons in Freeport, NY on Long Island:  Henry, Michael, and Daniel.  After her retirement from teaching, Harriet moved to Delray Beach, FL where she lived in the Valencia Falls community.   In 2018, she moved to Springhouse Senior Living in the Jamaica Plain section of Boston to be near family.

Harriet was caring and supportive to her children and to her extended Greenstein, Scheinberg, and Morris family.  She was active in the Baldwin Jewish Center in Long Island, NY and Kol Ami Reconstructionist Synagogue of Boca Raton, FL.  She was head of programming for the Jewish Club at Valencia Falls.  She was a lifelong member of Hadassah and a strong supporter of the Hebrew Academy of Nassau County in the early years when her children attended.  She loved music – playing piano, often going to opera houses and concert halls, and enjoying Broadway and Yiddish theater.

Harriet is survived by her three devoted sons:  Henry Morris of Newton, MA, Michael Morris of the Washington, DC metro area, and Daniel Morris of Watertown, MA and North Falmouth, MA; her five dear grandchildren: Martin Morris of Rockville, MD and Adam Morris of Sharon, MA, Haley Morris of Santa Cruz, CA and Charlotte Morris of Boston, MA, and Charles Morris of Boston, MA; her four great-grandchildren: Jared and Samuel Morris of Rockville, MD and Zoe and Jillian Morris of Sharon, MA.

The family will have a private graveside service on Sunday August 21, 2022. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Reconstructing Judaism Momentum Campaign:
