Harvey L. Cohen, 84, of Long Beach, NY, passed away on June 28, 2026, after a prolonged battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Harvey was born on April 22, 1942, in Baltimore, MD, to Jacob and Julia Cohen. He was raised in Flushing, Queens, where he graduated from Flushing High School in 1959. He went on to attend New York University’s School of Commerce, earning his Bachelor of Science degree.
Harvey built a distinguished career in finance, serving as Chief Financial Officer for several companies in the food manufacturing industry. His integrity and expertise were equally evident in his community service — he served as Treasurer of Temple Beth Elohim and the South Huntington School District, and volunteered with VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance), helping individuals and families prepare their tax returns, Long Island Wrestling Assocation, and the American Heart Association. He was also a proud supporter of the Plainview JCC.
On January 31, 1965, Harvey married the love of his life, Merry Beth Cohen, beginning a partnership of over 61 years. Together they raised three daughters, Rachel, Jessica, and Amanda. He was a devoted grandfather to Isabella, Hudson, Jackson, and Maya, who will carry his spirit forward.
Those who knew Harvey will remember his quick wit, warm generosity, outgoing nature, and his love of travel and adventure. He had a gift for making people feel welcome and for filling a room with laughter.
He will be deeply missed by all who had the joy of knowing him. To honor Harvey’s memory, those who wish can make donations to the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
