Notes:

Helen Glassman, 95, of Melville, NY passed away on Friday, October 09, 2026 surrounded by her loving family. Born on June 13, 1931 in Cologne, Germany, Helen was known for her devotion to her parents, husband, children and their spouses, grandchildren and their spouses, great grandchild and her long held circle of close friends. Her support for them was limitless.

Helen is survived by her children Alan and his wife Meghan, Hilary and her husband Jamie, and Bobby and his wife Lori; her grandchildren Hayley (Will), Corey (Greer), Jeremy and Eric, and her great grandchild Walter. She was long preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charlie. All that knew her know that she is resting easy now that she will be with him again.

Helen’s journey was “Hollywood script” material. She and her mother fled Germany in the time just before World War II as it was no longer safe for them to be there. They would meet up with her father who had fled earlier. They settled in Haifa (Israel) and lived there for several years before moving to the United States and making New York her home. The family quickly learned English and assimilated to life in the US.

Helen was truly the matriarch of multiple generations. Each had her unconditional support while also being the subject of her motherly advice for how to do things, dress, etc.. She loved dancing and parties, and lived for those days when the entire family would gather.  During her working years, Helen was known as the problem solver. Her colleagues knew where to turn when they had an issue and inevitably Helen had or created a solution. She was respected by all.

The family wants to send thanks to Lalli and Teona who have taken care of mom for the last year. Special thanks to Teona for making mom’s transition as comfortable as possible. Both ladies treated mom like their own mother.

A service will be held on Sunday, October 11, 2026 at 11AM at New Montefiore Cemetery. Please meet at the cemetery office at 10:30AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Helen’s honor to The Clarke School for Hearing and Speech, 45 Round Hill Road, Northampton, MA, 01060.

The family will be sitting shiva and the details will be shared at the funeral service.

Helen will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all she touched. Her legacy will live on through her family.
