Jordan Donald Polly
Funeral Service: January 26, 2023
Notes:
Jordan Donald Polly passed away on January 24, 2023 at the age of 93. He passed away in Brooklyn, NY, where he was born to Louis and Bertha (nee Bronzman) on September 18, 1929. Jordan was predeceased by his beloved wife, Iris (nee Isaacson), and his brother Stuart Polly. He is survived by his sister, Judy Sackheim, and his brother, Harvey Polly.Jordan and Iris raised four children in the small two bedroom apartment that was his home for over 60 years. Those surviving children are Sabrina Miller (married to David), Rhoda Danziger (Michael), Eric (Eileen), and Ira (Elizabeth). Outside of his military service during the Korean War, Jordan lived his life in a one-mile area from Brighton 6th to West 2nd Street, always in close proximity to his family. Jordan graduated from NYU with a degree in psychology, and had a variety of jobs until he discovered the nascent field of computer programming. He immediately displayed a great affinity and ability for the field, where he left a mark.
At Macy’s in the 1960s, Jordan migrated the Macy’s credit card system to new mainframe computers. He took pride in understanding the mainframe capabilities inside and out, which he employed to elegantly solve problems that vexed his team for months. Jordan later went to what is now the City of New York’s Department of Social Services. There he became responsible for benefits programs providing life changing assistance to needy individuals, while detecting and eliminating fraud. He led scores of programmers, and vast computer rooms filled with mainframe computers. Jordan was proud that a number of his children and grandchildren followed him into technical careers, but really he was proud of them all, no matter what they did. Jordan enjoyed a number of hobbies. They included photography, ham radio, playing bridge, chasing fire trucks, and dancing. He read history with gusto, consumed the New York Times daily, and was a master conversationalist. In addition to his immediate family, Jordan will be sorely missed by his thirteen grandchildren, and nineteen great-grandchildren. Their art and photographs brightened his life and home. They include: Sabrina/David’s clan: Lisa Smith (married to Tyler) with Wallace, Rufus and Theodora; and Robin Miller.Rhoda/Michael’s crew: Joshua Danziger (Jaclyn) with Eli, Sylvia, Miriam and Nathan; Rachel Kinney (Spencer) with Abigail, Arthur and Andrew; Jeffrey Danziger (Karen) with Ayla, Asher, and Talia; and Jeremy Danziger (Ilana).Eric/Eileen’s crew: Lori with Boaz; Samatha Meyer (Ezra) with Hadassah, Lavi, Chaigai, and Talia; Ethan Polly (Rinat) with Yasmin; Brenda Polly; Ezri Polly; and Avichai Polly.Ira/Elizabeth’s treasure: Jacob Polly. These grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his greatest source of joy. To them he was GG.
