Boca Raton, FL – September 12, 2023
It is with heavy hearts that we announce
the peaceful passing of Leon Aaron Simon,
a true hero and a cherished member of our
community, on September 12, 2023, at the
age of 97. He leaves behind a legacy of love,
courage, resilience, loyalty, dedication and
family that will be remembered and
celebrated for generations to come.
Born on August 9, 1926, Leon’s childhood and young adult life
were shaped by the Great Depression and World War II. He
witness sed the world change in ways that few of us can imagine,
yet he always retained a cheerful and optimistic outlook for every
challenge. His journey was marked by an unwavering commitment
to his family, community, and country.
Growing up in Moorhead, Minnesota, as part of the only Jewish
family in his community, Leon was always proud of his heritage.
and valued the importance of family. Leon represented the best
of his family, the greater community, and really, mankind.
As soon as he was eligible, Leon proudly served in the United
States military during World War II. His service to our nation
working in Army Intelligence during a time of global turmoil
exemplified his values of honor, duty and loyalty. His
contributions to the war effort will forever be etched in history.
After returning from the war, Leon returned home and continued
to do his part in growing and expanding the family business. Leon
worked closely with his parents and brother in the Standard
Furniture Company, which eventually grew into Simon Home
Furnishings. He frequently traveled for business, including to
Minneapolis, where he met the love of his life, Muriel.
Leon was a proud businessman. He was well known as the owner
of Simon Brothers Properties. He managed and led the expansion
of his family’s Moorhead, Minnesota based furniture business into
Fargo, North Dakota and Reno, Nevada.
In addition to his business success, Leon also continued to serve
his community, as a leader, working tirelessly to make the world
a better place. He was known for his kindness, humility, and
generosity, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.
Even more important to Leon than his business success, service to
our country, and leadership in the community, was his family.
Leon was the quintessential, admired and beloved Patriarch of an
ever-expanding family. He was a loving spouse, a devoted parent,
and a doting grandparent and great grandparent. His family was
his greatest source of joy, and he leaves behind cherished
memories that will forever warm their hearts. Leon loved
watching his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren
grow. Feeling blessed to see the arrival of thirteen great
grandchildren, he would frequently turn to his beloved wife
Muriel, with a twinkle in his eye, to remark “look at what we
started!”
Leon’ s passing is a profound loss to our community, but his
memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched. His legacy
of patriotism, resilience, and compassion will continue to inspire
future generations.
A service to celebrate Leon’s life was on Thursday, September 14,
2023, at Temple Beth El of Boca Raton Mausoleum.
In lieu of flower s and donations, the family kindly requests that
you gather with your family and friends for a meal. (Leon loved
nothing more than to share a delicious meal with his family).
Leon is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, Muriel Simon,
his three children: Phillip Simon (Deborah Olson), Lisa Simon
Margolin, Marsha Simon Bunge (Darrel Bunge), his grandchildren:
Adam Bunge (Sarah Bunge), Rachel Pearl Bunge Gutierrez, David
Simon (Keira Simon), Max Bunge (Kai Yin Ham), Michael Simon

Margolin, Aviva Margolin, Zachary Moubayed, Arya Simon and a

may his legacy continue to shine as a beacon of hope and
inspiration.
