On June 16, 2025, just four months from reaching 100, MAE IRENE GETLER HELLMAN MAIDMAN died peacefully and gracefully at her home in Boca Raton, FL. Born in the Bronx on Halloween in 1925 to Alfred and Rose Getler, Mae was proud to be one of the first 100 women admitted to CCNY. Leaving there after two years to work for the Navy, she married Alfred Hellman, and in 1949 began her career as a world class mom to Carol and Marc. Despite tragically losing both Alfredo (in 1987) and Carol (in 2003) to cancer (along with her younger brother Michael Getler in 2018), she herself lived a charmed life, health-wise, and — forever seeing the glass as half full — always considered herself to be among the luckiest people on earth. That good fortune continued with her introduction and subsequent marriage to Harold Maidman, with whom she shared another 25 remarkable years before his passing in 2017.
Maisy was simply a beautiful individual, compassionate, understated and universally adored by everyone she came in contact with. And just to be clear … we all “love you more” than you’ll ever know.
Mae is survived by her adoring son Marc and daughter in law Chris; 4 grandchildren Jamie (Michael Kopech), Josh (Sasha), Pamela and Jordan (Renee); 6 great grandchildren Lily, Laine, Andrew, Matthew, Charlie Mae and Millie; sister in law Sandy Getler; as well as her loving step daughter Sandy (Maidman) Cahn; 3 step grandchildren Scott, Erin and Robin; a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
