Maxine Arno, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and educator, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2026, at the age of 81.
Born on June 22, 1944, in Brooklyn, New York, to Fay and Mannie Manoff, Maxine was predeceased by her beloved husband, Alan Arno, with whom she shared a deep and enduring love. Together they built a life in Woodmere, New York, before relocating to Boca Raton, Florida in 1981. She was also predeceased by her parents, and her sister, Jill Gordon.
She is survived by her loving children, Michelle (Glenn Ward) and Michael (Janine) Arno, and by her cherished grandchildren, Paige Ward, Maxwell Arno, and Sophia Arno, who brought her immense pride and joy. She also shared a special and lasting bond with her sister-in-law, Susan Vogel. She also found companionship and happiness later in life with her partner, Mel Merenstein, with whom she shared a cherished and loving relationship.
Maxine dedicated her professional life to education. As a longtime educator and media specialist at Calusa Elementary School in Boca Raton, she touched the lives of countless students and colleagues with her passion, warmth, and commitment to learning.
A dynamic and deeply loving woman, Maxine found great joy in music and the arts. She enjoyed playing the piano, and was especially delighted in hearing her grandchildren play. She also had a deep appreciation for the theater and performing arts, and she loved to dance. In her later years, she embraced painting, expressing her creativity with the same spirit she brought to all aspects of her life.
A woman of elegance and style, who carried herself with grace and took pride in presenting herself beautifully. She had a natural sense of sophistication and brought that same care and attention to every gathering and occasion. She also had a gift for bringing people together. Maxine loved to entertain and host gatherings, filling her home with warmth, laughter, and the joy of connection.
She was a dedicated volunteer and an active member of her community. Maxine devoted herself to many causes over the years, including decades of membership and service at Temple Beth El in Boca Raton, where she built lasting friendships and contributed her time generously. Most recently, she volunteered with Boca Helping Hands, continuing her lifelong commitment to helping others.
Funeral services will be held at Temple Beth El in Boca Raton, Florida.
Maxine was known for her strength, resilience, and unwavering devotion to those she loved. Her life was a testament to perseverance, love, and quiet courage. Though her family mourns her loss deeply, they take comfort in the enduring love she gave so freely. Her warmth, strength, and spirit will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. May her memory be a blessing.
