Miriam Y Baum (1930-2024)
Miriam Yvette Baum, of North Massapequa, NY, died Feb 18, 2024, on her 94th birthday. She was born in Bronx, NY in 1930 to Jack Ross and Ina Gershen Ross. As a child she moved to Hollywood, CA, Geneva, NY and Greenwich, CT before settling back in the Bronx. Miriam attended Walton High School in the Bronx and graduated in 1947 and then went on to Adelphi University where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in French and Math in 1951. Miriam went on to teach for over 30 years with most of her work focusing on remedial mathematics at Saltzman East Memorial School in Farmingdale, NY.
Miriam was preceded in death by her husband Robert L. Baum and is survived by children James (Barbara) Abeles, Robert (Deborah) Abeles, and Kenneth (Susan) Abeles, and by grandchildren Ross, Mark (Gina) Abeles, Lauren (Evan) Megiel, Anthony, Gianna, Nikki, and Hannah Abeles, and by great grandchild Lily Megiel.
Chapel Service will be March 3 at 11am at Gutterman’s Funeral Home, Woodbury, NY, with a family-only grave-side service to follow at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery Glendale, NY.
