Peter Rubin, beloved husband of Sandy Rubin, devoted father of Lindsey Ben (Chad) and Dr. Courtney Rubin, adored grandfather of Sara and Evan Ben, and cherished brother of Kenneth (Sue), Lance (Katrina) and Derrick (Roberta), died suddenly at his home on the Freeport waterfront on June 10. He was 81.
Peter’s parents are the late Marion and Judge Albert Rubin, of Rockville Centre. Peter was born on October 13, 1942, as World War II was raging in Europe. His father was soon called to fight in France, and Peter lived until the end of the war with his mother and his grandmother, Helen Osterweis, in NYC. After the war, Peter moved with his parents to Rockville Centre, where he lived most of his life and was very active in community affairs. He was a Village Trustee, President of the Rockville Centre Republican Club, and an assistant County District Attorney. Peter, a prominent local attorney, practiced law in the village for over 50 years as a criminal defense attorney and representative of several of the village’s and county’s major businesses.
Peter loved to work, but what gave him the most pleasure was time spent with Sandy, his girls, and his grandchildren. Peter and Sandy also enjoyed very special vacations in the South of France, Paris, and most recently, the Amalfi Coast. After moving to the waterfront in Freeport, Peter acquired and spent many weekends in a series of ever-growing boats named after his wife Sandy, beginning with Precious Redhead, followed by Precious Redhead 2, and most recently, the Precious Redhead 3.
