Phyllis Irene Held, (Fleischer), born November 14, 1939, in Brooklyn, N.Y. and longtime resident of Freeport, N.Y., passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family, on February 17th, 2024.
Loving wife of Dino Held, originally of Venice, Italy, who she met while on a European vacation after graduating college. A yearlong long-distance courtship ensued, culminating in a marriage officiated by the Mayor of Venice that lasted 60 years.
Beloved mother to her son Grant, dear mother-in-law of his wife Allison (Hecht) and cherished grandmother of their daughter Clara. Sister-in-law of Emily Plunkett Fleischer and aunt of Sophia Fleischer. Dearly loved by family in the USA and her many nieces and nephews in Italy. Predeceased by her mother Claire, father Samuel and brother Scott.
Phyllis was known for her passion for life, great sense of humor, and remarkable ability to light up a room. While remaining close to her childhood friends, she amassed countless others throughout her life, and possessed with an almost magical ability to make every person she met feel special.
