Robin Goldberg passed away on September 16, 2023 after a
valiant fight against breast cancer. The world has lost an angel.
She was a passionate advocate for the delivery of human
services in the Long Island, NY community. As president of the
Fay J. Linder and Diane Goldberg Foundations, she was
respected for the level of her involvement with the organizations
the foundations supported. Robin was a hospice social worker
who went well beyond what was required in providing comfort for
her clients: bringing cakes to celebrate birthdays, music for
dancing an anniversary waltz and entertainment by telling
amusing stories about her life. She was closely involved in the
lives of her friends—some of whose children knew her as “Aunt
Robin.” These friends often spoke of how she had always been
there when they needed her. She adored her cats—Steuckie,
whose Bar Mitzvah her hospice colleagues and friends
celebrated—and then Rocco. Robin loved life, especially
spending time with family and friends, traveling, walking in her
neighborhood and baking her famous chocolate chip cookies.
She was a huge fan of “The Golden Girls” and one of it’s stars
Betty White. “She was the kindest person I knew” are
appropriate words to describe her. She will be deeply missed by
many: her partner, Jerry Rothschild, his children Rachel and
Jonathan, and Rachel’s son, Solomon; her parents, Arlene and
Robert Goldberg; her brother and sister-in-law, David and Janet
Goldberg; her stepbrother and his husband, Eric Shimanoff and
Geoffrey Patton; her niece, Molly Goldberg; her nephews Evan
Goldberg and Jonah Shimanoff; and her entire extended family of
relatives and devoted friends. Robin will live forever in the hearts
of all those whose lives she touched. Contributions in Robin’s
memory may be directed to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer
Center or Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the
Immaculate Heart of Mary.
