Rosane Weiss, age 63, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 7th, surrounded by family. She was a beloved mother, partner, sister, and daughter, a passionate educator, and a tenacious advocate. Rosane was born on August 29, 1962 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, was raised by Mendel and Sonia Jacubovski and had two siblings, Michel and Rivany. She moved from Brazil to Israel in 1985), her first international move. She married her husband David (1959-2013) in 1988 in Israel at Kibbutz Givat Oz, and they later moved to the US, where she raised her two children, Samantha (born 1992) and Andrew (born 1998). Rosane began her career as a computer programmer, but was best known as an engaging and hardworking math and computer science educator. She spent most of her teaching career at Hillcrest High School in Queens and was incredibly proud of her students’ achievements. Rosane is survived by her mother Sonia, her siblings Michel and Rivany, her children Samantha (and husband Michael) and Andrew (and wife Jamie), and her devoted partner of more than a decade, Frank Cacossa. Funeral service will take place at 10:00 am on Friday, January 9, at Gutterman’s Funeral Home, 175 N Long Beach Rd, Rockville Centre, NY 11570.
Burial to follow at Beth David Cemetery 300 Elmont Rd, Elmont, NY 11003
Shiva will take place at Rosane’s home 710 Wenwood Dr, East Meadow, NY, at the following times:
Friday January 9 4pm-7pm
Saturday January 10 1pm-6pm
