He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Roz Laitman; his children Lisa (Jeff) Goldstein, Debbie (Rob) Silverman and Michael (Robyn) Laitman and eight grandchildren: Danny, Spencer and Lindsey Goldstein, Mia and Remi Silverman, and Samantha, Cooper and Zack Laitman.
Sam was born January 29, 1935 in Brooklyn, New York. He was the son of Dora and Louis Laitman. He graduated from Brooklyn College with a degree in Political Science and a Master’s in Education. He had a long career with the New York City Board of Education beginning as a teacher at PS 263, quickly moving into administration until his retirement as Principal of PS 40 in Brooklyn. After his retirement at the young age of 55, he had a second career working as a Director of the Language Institute for English (LIFE) a part of Berlitz. He loved that part of his career working with international students and travelling abroad.
Sam raised his family in Oceanside, NY until his retirement when his time became split between Long Beach, NY and Boynton Beach, FL eventually settling full time in Boynton. Sam loved his family dearly and enjoyed countless family celebrations of milestones over the years. He had recently celebrated his 60th wedding anniversary to the love of his life, Roz and celebrated his 88th birthday just a few days before he became ill. He had a large circle of friends and family and loved spending time socializing and laughing. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and loyalty to family. In addition to the people in his life, he also loved crossword puzzles, pens, gadgets and technology, the Game Show channel, telling jokes, pretzels and black licorice, putting together vacation photo albums, the Long Beach boardwalk and too many more things to name. He will be forever missed and remembered with love and laughter.
