Stanley Greenman
Stanley Greenman, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2025, at his home in Oyster Bay, NY, at the age of 76, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Stan was born to Phyllis and Bernard Greenman and grew up in Roslyn, NY, where he graduated from Roslyn High School. While there, he excelled in athletics and made lifelong friends. After attending the University of South Carolina in the early 1970s, Stan joined a determined young group of Americans that re-established Kibbutz Gezer in the Shephelah region of Israel. He could be found in the early mornings driving a tractor in the asparagus fields.
Stan’s son, Ari, was born in 1975. Stan and Ari’s mother, Charlene, met in Gezer, married, and subsequently moved to back to Stan’s hometown. Stan later married Marsha in 1980, and they had two children, Tamara, in 1986 and Jared, in 1988.
Stan had a long and successful career. He joined Greenman Brothers, the family toy business, which was founded by Stan’s father and uncles in Manhattan in the 1930s. It went public in 1967, eventually growing into one of the largest toy wholesalers in America, as well as a large retailer under the names Playland and Circus World. Stan rose steadily in the business, becoming President of the Hudson-Berlind housewares subsidiary and ultimately President of the company. Stan was an astute merchant and leader. He steered the company back into the retail business in the 1990s, and built Noodle Kidoodle, an entirely new concept of nationwide “edutainment” stores under the slogan, “Kids learn best when they’re having fun!” Stan oversaw the merger of Noodle Kidoodle in 2000 and soon after started a new retail group of boutique toy stores called Funky Monkey, with stores in both New York and Connecticut.
Stan was a strong family man and had a wonderful dry sense of humor. He loved Tulipdom, their lifelong home in Oyster Bay. Marsha and Stan spent many years vacationing on Nantucket Island and eventually built a house there. While on the island, Stan very much enjoyed landscaping the property himself, sometimes famously cutting the grass with scissors. Stan was always the earliest riser and took morning drives to retrieve Sconset Market muffins so they could be waiting for the family in the kitchen for breakfast. Stan also spent time off-roading through the Moors on bumpy roads, adding many “Nantucket pinstripes” to the car in the process. He enjoyed swimming at Jetties Beach and Quidnet Pond, spending time with the family dogs, especially his favorite, Angelina, and enjoyed many family dinners out. Stan also spent many years at their family home in Wellington, FL, where he supported Marsha’s passion for horses, played many rounds of golf, and helped kickstart Jared’s passion for the game. In the winter months, he enjoyed supporting Tamara and Jared playing hockey by watching their games and joining them during free skate at their winter club, Beaver Dam. He also very much valued spending time with his Michele and Ari’s children, his Grandchildren, Uzi and Wallis. Stan was a very generous man with a strong and calming presence and will be remembered and missed by many.
He is survived by his wife, Marsha, his sister Judy Katz, his brother Lester and his wife Marcia Isaacson, his son Ari, and Ari’s wife Michele, his daughter Tamara, and son, Jared, and his grandchildren, Uzi and Wallis.
A private graveside service will be held for family only on Friday, November 28.
Shiva to follow on Friday and Saturday at the family home in Oyster Bay. Open to all friends and family.
